Title: Instructional Specialist

Description: The Instructional Specialist will be responsible for facilitating appropriate staff development and in-class modeling and coaching in order to improve student achievement.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure safety of students, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Plan, deliver, follow-up, and assess effectiveness of professional development.
• Observe, model lessons, co-teach and collect data. Interactions should take place with students present.
• Assist teachers to use formative assessment to guide instructional planning, recommend instructional strategies appropriate for learner needs, and differentiated instruction.
• Work with teachers to plan focused instruction based on data.
• Work to create or gather resources that directly support a teacher’s implementation of a new strategy or curriculum.
• Work with data in preparation to collaborate with staff to ensure that student achievement data drives instructional decisions.
• Participate in personal learning, to keep current and have the skills necessary to be an instructional leader in the school.
• Participate in professional development for own learning.
• Follow professional ethics, policies, and legal codes of professional conduct.
• Work as an agent of change to seek opportunities to positively impact teaching quality, school improvements and student achievement.
• Gather and analyze data from benchmark assessments to make instructional decisions.
• Understand and apply knowledge about change.
• Align work with school and district goals.
• Use data to drive decisions.
• Engage others in developing plans for improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education.
• Valid State of Ohio Teaching License.
• Proper certification in designated subject area.
• Satisfactory completion of BCI and FBI background check
• One or two years related experience preferred.
• Such alternative(s) to the above qualifications as the superintendent and/or the board of education may find appropriate.

• Regularly required to speak and hear.
• Required to have dexterity of hands and fingers.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
• Required to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
• Occasionally required to bend at the waist, kneel, crouch, reach, climb and stretch with hands and arms.
• Required to report to work on all scheduled workdays.
• Frequently required to push, pull, lift, or carry various supplies and materials up to a maximum of 25 pounds.
• Occasional repetitive hand motion, e.g., typing, computer work.
• Occasional interaction with difficult behaviors among students.
